The Arsenal Commercial Partners Tournament

It was a nervous morning on the 13th May, as the Goodmarriott & Hursthouse Ltd footballing elite gathered at Nottingham train station.

The team were off to the Emirates to play in a 5 a side competition in the stadium they helped to construct. As the train pulled into London the banter stopped and players where dreaming of what the day would bring.

As the team arrived at the stadium they were led down to the changing rooms to prepare and get changed.

Once at pitch side they had chance to size up the opposition before finding which group they would be placed in. The group turned out as follows:

Goodmarriott & Hursthouse Ltd

MBNA

Scottish Courage

Thomas Cook

Ladbrokes

Goodmarriott & Hursthouse Ltd were unbeaten in the group stage and managed a win against MNBA. This good form booked them a place in the quarter finals finishing second in the group without conceding a single goal.

At this stage hopes were high of reaching the final, for a shot at the highly prestigious Commercial Partners Tournament trophy. The draw for the quarter finals were made and Goodmarriott & Hursthouse Ltd were to face Sony.

It was a tight game with Sony having most of the play, the resilient defence of Goodmarriott & Hursthouse was finally broken when Sony scored with a low drive into the right corner of the goal. Goodmarriott & Hursthouse Ltd fort back in the closing minutes but failed to equalise, Sony were victorious.

The dream was over!

After the event the team gathered in the Diamond Club for an excellent buffet and talked about what could have been whilst the final winners Coca Cola were presented with the Commercial Partners Tournament trophy.
