'Twister' helps save lives
Fire in public buildings can have catastrophic results when visitors cannot find the exit because of thick smoke and may even die for a lack of fresh air. Imtech developed a unique high-tech smoke evacuation system that puts an end to this problem. Many airports in Germany have already been equipped with it, including Düsseldorf and Hamburg.
The Mercedes Benz Museum in Stuttgart has also installed this system, which responds in case of fire by extracting and evacuating the smoke like a whirlwind via its 42-metre high atrium. The result? No heavy smoke in the event of a fire disaster, no visitor fatalities for lack of fresh air, restriction of the fire hotbed, and safe access for relief workers like firefighters and police. Rapid, efficient, manageable and proven successful. A scale model of this innovative solution can be seen at the Imtech R&D centre in Hamburg.
