Sustainability

At Imtech Aqua, part of Imtech UK, we believe in Sustainability. Throughout our operations we strive for the right balance between People, Planet and Profit. We make a significant contribution to society though the efficient and profitable operation of our business, contributing to the economic well being of our staff, suppliers and shareholders.  We always seek to balance this with a concern for social and environmental aspects of our business, creating a long term sustainable approach which benefits our stakeholders and community.

To be effective such a commitment must be given focus and practical implementation. We have identified  five key elements of our business through which we will give practical effect to our commitment.

  • Health and Safety
  • People development
  • Environment
  • Energy
  • Engagement in the community

Our programmes and achievements in Health & Safety and People developments are detailed elsewhere on this website.

Environment

In the UK we have committed to responsible management of the impact of our operations on the environment by adopting ISO 14000 as the standard to which we strive to deliver our environmental responsibilities.

Group management procedures are driven to this standard and existing subsidiaries are accredited to it. Where, as in the case of Imtech G&H, an acquired business does not yet have the standard we commit to, a plan to have the business accredited within an agreed time frame is implemented.

Access to the resources of a pan European group provides us with the facility to continually examine aspects of our business and seek ways to improve it.

For example, we are currently working with our European colleagues to find ways to make our total fleet more environmentally friendly.

Sustainable energy

We believe that Imtech Aqua will make a significant contribution towards the environment by utilising our unique position as a technical provider across Europe to drive technological solutions to environmental problems.

We are in a unique position to collaborate with clients and suppliers to provide these solutions, and to spread the use of appropriate solutions. Already we have provided the know how to deliver a large bio mass generating station in Austria and are currently delivering a programme of projects generating electricity from Biosolids for Anglian water. This project, for example, reduces waste spread to land, generates electricity from alternative sources and reduces the traffic volume associated with transporting untreated sludge. A perfect example of the balance between Profit, Planet and People.

These individual successes point the way to the enormous opportunity to positively engage with environmental challenges and positively meet them. At Imtech, we are systematically building on our experience with these and other projects by seeking opportunities to provide sustainable energy solutions though our knowledge of processes and products and our ability to advise clients on profitable opportunities to maximise energy use.

Engagement in the community

We are proud of our involvement in the community in which we operate. We have established links with schools promoting opportunities in our industry, as well as supporting a range of initiatives aimed at supporting those who are less advantaged.

We are proud to be an employer with a diverse employment base and we are actively working with the European Group to continue to ensure that our profile remains attractive to all, irrespective of background.
