Imtech Aqua CIBSE Contractor of the Year 2012
At the 2012 CIBSE Building Performance Awards, held in February, Imtech Aqua won Contractor of Year at an awards ceremony held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.
Our submission was based upon the Anglian Ruskin University project completed in 2011. This major, complex redevelopment, located in the heart of Cambridge City Centre was carried out whilst the University remained fully operational and split the campus in two. The centre section of the campus was demolished and required major service diversions.
Overcoming these challenges required intense planning and communication involving regular meetings with key stakeholders, it was a critical client requirement that the project was delivered without any disruption to the education of the 6,000 students who use the campus every day.
This was the most ambitious project ever undertaken by the University and the team was highly commended for demonstrating a positive and proactive approach to successfully meeting all of the challenges presented.
The Award was open to contractors who have demonstrated their contribution to projects where comfort, sustainability, energy efficiency, performance and commitment to user satisfaction are combined to produce buildings which please and satisfy users. The judges sought evidence of the quality of the people, processes and buildings for which the contractor is responsible.
The judges were impressed by the way in which Imtech had delivered a complex project that was critical to the functioning of the clients business and had enourmous potential to disrupt the operation of the University.
The CIBSE awards celebrate excellence within the industry and this was recognised by Andy Ford, CIBSE President who commented “This evening we celebrated excellence in the state of the art represented here by the buildings and people contesting the awards. Tonight we have seen the best to date. Let’s celebrate.”
