Erwin Beuger & Wester, 3rd of October 2009

October 7 2009

After a long flight of almost 11 hours we needed to sign in at 8.30 in the morning. That was in the beginning not easy.

The idea of the day was to get to know one and eachother and to get to know the people and city of Pretoria. We went at it by speed dating, talking for 2,5 minutes to one and other and switching. Then discussing different prejudices and assumptions that the European as well as the South African people had about South Africa in general and also about Europe. Afterwards we came together to talk about it again when our bellies began to rumble. Now the city run was coming up. In groups of four people we went our way discovering the South African kitchen and a certain topic that we would like to know more about. For instance the politics transport of medical way of living in South Africa. Then we had an assignment in the city.
Robert, Emiel en Erwin where dropt in Sunnysite, a neighborhood in Pretoria.

Our mission was to get to now the people and the country, we ate real SA food, worms(fried), some stew en all kinds of bread and pap. When we where eating we saw beggars, asking for food en money, and then you see a big gap between rich and pour.
There is a lot to do to help the poor people with a lot of problems, and that is to much to mention. We spoke to people and in the end they told us what they earn, and then you see that a lot of people have not much to spent, even with working weeks of 7 days.

We knew that already but when you hear it from the people self the impact is much bigger.

At 5 o’clock we all were back on the Nova headquarters, and after an hour speaking about our experiences we are about 6.30 ready to refresh. Just have a dinner at 7 and then maybe get some time of to put all the impressions in place.
