October 21st and 22nd 2008 - Technical Team in Bothaville
October 21st, In Bothaville at last.
Bothaville is far away from Johannesburg, in fact it is far away from anything, including an internet accespoint.
The advantage is that we can now share the news of several days, until we can find a way to get it across.
On the 21st the entire team (i.e. logistics and technical) travelled from Joburg (short for Johannesburg)to Bothaville and finally got to see the plant containing equipment that somehow converts used cooking oil to diesel oil that meets the EN14214 standards (actually we believe it even exceeds it quite a bit).
Of course we could not end the day before reflecting on it some time and when that was taken care of we said goodbye to the logistics team, had a super supper and even had some time to wander. Not long after sunset the first stars appeared and though the sky was magnificent every constellation seemed to be rotated by about 90 degrees as compared to the sky at home.

October 22nd. Nampo Plant. Bothaville.
We intended to check each and every wire, sensor, pump, valve of the plant but on our way to the plant we ended up at a do-it yourself biodiesel shack, run by a father and son arrangement. Pa seemed to know all about the chemical side of it, son was actually doing all the work. The ‘plant’ does actually produce diesel oil but since there is no way to check the quality of it it may do tricks to the diesel engine as home brewed gin may play tricks on the one who drinks it.
While we were at it we also bought ourselves a sieve to filter the incoming used cooking oil, see photo below.
Arriving at the plant at last we even helped testing the sieve (see other picture below.).
When we rode home in the back of Mthok’s pickup truck we were satisfied that all work had been done as planned.
Meanwhile Mthoks had fixed a series of problems and prepared the plant to give a demonstration to several guests who will arrive the next day..
Lets hope that the demostruction effect will not be encountered.
Regards, Mthokozisi (Mthok”s) Mthethwa and Aldert Pottjewijd.
